...why in this order?
When I mentioned—and shared—the possibility of crowdfunding, I was confronted with a surprising amount of resistance and misconceptions surrounding Tarot. It amazes me that even in the twenty-first century, people still believe in black magic and dark forces.
To me, the Major Arcana is a symbolic tale of human development—a journey from innocence to wholeness. What fascinates me most is the way the cards highlight certain milestones and stages of life and the countless experiences and challenges we encounter. Why these particular lessons? And why in this order?
One of the most common interpretations describes the cards as the journey of the Fool. Each card represents an experience that prepares us for the next, guiding us through the essential questions and transformations of human existence.
This journey is not something we complete only once. It unfolds in cycles throughout our lives, returning in different forms and at different stages. The cards simply reflect where we are within that process at any given moment. They point to enduring patterns of human development that transcend time and culture. What I find remarkable is that our struggles, our choices, and our search for meaning have changed so little over thousands of years. These symbols continue to speak to us because the journey is soooo familiar.
There is another interpretation, influenced by Jungian psychology, which divides the Major Arcana into three phases:
I–VII: The formation of the personality
VIII–XIV: Inner transformation
XV–XXI: The shadow, enlightenment, and wholeness
In this reading, the sequence is not simply a chain of events but a map of the evolution of consciousness. I have not explored that perspective in depth yet. For now, I am drawn more to the narrative quality of the Fool’s journey, so let us follow that path instead.
0. The Fool — The Beginning
Open, innocent, and full of possibility. The Fool has no goal yet, only potential. Every journey begins here.
I. The Magician — The Birth of Awareness
The Fool discovers that s/he can influence the world around him. S/he possesses tools, intention, and creative power.
II. The High Priestess — The Inner World
S/he begins to understand that not everything can be seen. Intuition, mystery, and the unconscious reveal themselves. After external power comes inner wisdom.
III–IV. The Empress and The Emperor
The Fool first encounters life’s nurturing abundance through the Empress, then order, structure, and authority through the Emperor. Much like a child, s/he learns care before s/he learns rules.
V. The Hierophant — Social Order
Tradition, religion, and shared values – The Fool learns how society functions.
VI. The Lovers — The First Honest Choice
This card is about more than romantic love. It represents a wholehearted choice. One must decide whether to follow a path that is truly their own or one defined by others. That is why it follows the Hierophant: first, we learn the rules, then we decide what place they will have in our lives.
VII. The Chariot — Will
Once a choice has been made, determination follows. There is now direction and purpose.
VIII. Strength
Will alone is not enough. We must learn to master our instincts and inner impulses.
IX. The Hermit — Self-Reflection
The Fool begins to understand that not all answers can be found in the external world.
X. The Wheel of Fortune — Forces Beyond Our Control
Here comes the realisation that life is shaped not only by our choices but also by cycles, chance, and change.
XI. Justice — Cause and Effect
A new question emerges: what are the consequences of my actions? Responsibility enters the journey.
XII. The Hanged Man — A New Perspective
Sometimes progress halts for a reason. This is a time for reflection rather than action, for seeing life from a different angle. It is no coincidence that this card precedes Death: first, the perspective changes, then the self.
XIII. Death — A Natural Ending
Something must end for something new to begin. A part of the old identity is released so that growth can occur.
XIV. Temperance
After transformation comes integration. This is the card of healing, balance, and learning to inhabit a new version of oneself.
XV. The Devil
Having found balance, we are confronted with our shadow: fears, attachments, self-deception, and the parts of ourselves we would rather ignore. The Devil does not bind us with chains but with cords. Whether and when to break them remains our choice.
XVI. The Tower — The Collapse of the Old Order
When illusions can no longer be sustained, they fall away. The Tower is not a punishment but a liberation. The old structure must collapse to make room for something new.
XVII. The Star
In the aftermath of destruction, hope appears for the first time.
XVIII. The Moon
Once more, we must move through uncertainty, guided largely by intuition. Reason alone is not always enough. This is the final test of the unconscious.
XIX. The Sun — Enlightenment
At last, clarity arrives. Joy, vitality, awareness, and understanding come into full view.
XX. Judgement
The individual is no longer simply content; they reflect upon the journey as a whole and come to understand who they truly are. The past acquires meaning and forms a coherent story.
XXI. The World
The cycle reaches completion. The Fool arrives at a state of wholeness.
And yet, paradoxically, the story returns to its beginning. After The World comes The Fool once again, because every ending also contains the seed of a new beginning.

Amikor felvetettem – és persze megosztottam – a crowd-founding lehetőségét szembesültem a masszív ellenérzésekkel és tévhitekkel a Tarot-al kapcsolatban. Elképesztő, hogy a 21. században az emberek még hisznek a feketemágiában és a sötét erőkben.
Számomra a Tarot nagy arkánuma egy tanmese, egy fejlődési történet, amelyben a naiv létezéstől eljutunk a teljességig. Leginkább az izgatott, hogy milyen állomásokat, életszakaszokat emelnek ki a kártyák és az élet számos buktatója közül mikre fókuszálnak...és persze miért pont ebben a sorrendben?
Az egyik leggyakoribb magyarázat szerint a "Bolond" útján minden lap egy olyan tapasztalatot képvisel, amely logikusan készíti elő a következőt, amíg végigjárja az emberi lét legnagyobb kérdéseinek teljes körét.
Ez a kör nem egyszer történik meg és zárul le az életben, ciklikusan ismétlődik (nehezen tanulunk :-D) és a kártyák azt mutatják, hogy a folyamat melyik szakaszában vagyunk éppen. Rámutatnak az emberi fejlődés kozmikus mintázataira, amik kortól függetlenül jelen vannak az életünkben. Ezért döbbenetes számomra, hogy az utunk, a dilemmáink nem változnak több ezer év alatt és a szimbólumok még ma is megérintenek minket.
Van egy másik elmélet is ami párhuzamba helyezi a nagy arkánumot Jung valamelyik elmélete alapján három szakaszra osztva:
I–VII: a személyiség kialakulása
VIII–XIV: a belső átalakulás
XV–XXI: az árnyék, a megvilágosodás és a teljesség
Ebben az értelmezésben a sorrend nem egyszerűen események láncolata, hanem a tudat fejlődésének térképe.
Nnnna, de ezt ugorjuk, ebben még nem merültem még el, jobban szeretem a romantikusabb, mesés megközelítést, így inkább járjuk végig az utat a bolonddal:
0. A Bolond tehát a kezdet: nyitott, ártatlan, tele lehetőséggel. Nem célja van, hanem potenciálja. Innen indul minden.
I. A Mágus – a tudat megszületése
A Bolond felismeri, hogy képes hatni a világra. Vannak eszközei, akarata, kreatív ereje.
II. A Főpapnő – a belső világ
Miután megtanult cselekedni, rájön, hogy nem minden látható. Létezik intuíció, tudattalan, titok. A külső erő után a belső bölcsesség következik.
III–IV. A Császárnő és a Császár
Először megtapasztalja az élet bőségét, tápláló oldalát (Császárnő), majd a rendet, törvényt és struktúrát (Császár). Pont ahogyan egy gyermek először a gondoskodást, majd a szabályokat ismeri meg.
V. A Főpap - A társadalmi rend
Hagyományok, vallás, közösségi értékek. A Bolond megtanulja, hogyan működik a világ.
VI. A Szeretők - az első valódi választás
Itt nemcsak szerelemről van szó: szívből jövő "igen"-ről. Az egyén eldönti, hogy a saját útját járja-e vagy másokét. Ezért következik a Főpap után: előbb megismered a szabályokat, aztán eldöntöd, hogy hogyan tovább.
VII. A Diadalszekér - az akarat
A döntés után jön az akarat. - Most már van irány és cél.
VIII. Erő
Az akarat önmagában kevés, meg kell tanulni uralni a belső ösztönöket.
IX. A Remete - önvizsgálat
A Bolond rájön, hogy a válaszokat nem mindig kívül találja meg.
X. A Szerencsekerék - a rajtunk kívül álló erők
A felismerés, hogy nem minden áll hatalmunkban: léteznek ciklusok, sorsfordulatok, változások.
XI. Igazságosság - ok-okozat
Felmerül a kérdés: Mi a következménye a tetteimnek? Itt jelenik meg a felelősség.
XII. Az Akasztott Ember - egy új nézőpot
Van amikor megakadsz: nem véletlenül. Itt az idő, hogy más "megvilágításban" vizsgáld meg a dolgokat, az életed. Nem cselekedni kell, hanem átgondolni. Ezért nem véletlenül van a Halál kártya előtt: először változzon a nézőpontod, aztán te.
XIII. Halál - a természetes vég
Valaminek véget kell érnie. Az identitás egy része meghal, hogy új születhessen.
XIV. Mértékletesség
A nagy átalakulás után fel kell fedezni és elfogadni az új én-t. Ez a gyógyulás és egyensúly lapja.
XV. Az Ördög
Fény-Árnyék – Miután egyensúlyba kerültünk, szembesülünk az árnyékunkkal: függőségekkel, félelmekkel, önáltatással, mindennel, amit korábban nem akartunk látni. Az ördög nem láncon tart, hanem zsinóron, csak rajtad áll, mikor szakítod el őket.
XVI. A Torony - a régi rend összeomlása
Amikor az illúziók már nem tarthatók fenn, összeomlanak. A Torony nem büntetés, hanem felszabadulás. A régi rend felbontása, hogy legyen helye az újnak.
XVII. A Csillag
A romok után először jelenik meg a remény.
XVIII. A Hold
Még egyszer át kell haladni a bizonytalanságon és az úton csak az intuíciónk kísér. Jobb rá hallgatni, mert néha a józan ész kevés. A tudattalan utolsó próbája.
XIX. A Nap - megvilágosodás
Végre tisztán látunk. Öröm, tisztaság, tudatosság, életenergia.
XX. Az Ítélet
Az ember már nem egyszerűen boldog, számot vet az útjával, megérti, ki is ő valójában. A múlt értelmet nyer és egységes egésszé áll össze.
XXI. A Világ - The World
A ciklus beteljesedik. A Bolond az út végén elérte a teljességet. De a történet paradox módon visszaér a 0-hoz: a Világ után újra Bolond következik, mert minden befejezés egy új kezdet is egyben.
